Microwave Oven works on the
principle of passing invisible energy rays called Microwaves through food items. Microwaves are part of the spectrum
of electromagnetic waves which includes light waves and X rays. Microwaves,
with a wave length between 1 mm and 30 cm are harmful to humans if exposed to
it as it generates radiation.
Microwaves can make liquid particles
vibrate through which frictional energy in the form of heat is produced. In a
microwave oven, microwaves are passed through food. These rays make the water
molecules vibrate, producing heat energy. This energy is transferred to the
food particles around it. Thus using this energy, food is cooked faster.
In the
oven, the waves are produced by a 2-electron valve called magnetron, which are scattered around the oven by a metallic fan.
